Every year the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Council of Rochester host the Business Person of the Year Award. The awards recognize for-profit business leaders who demonstrate professional and personal success in the areas of growth, leadership and community service.
Vic was nominated for 2022, but was not eligible to win as he was already “officially” retired. The Chamber and SBC felt strongly enough that Vic’s business success and community service still needed to be recognized, which prompted the committee to create its first ever category for Distinguished Career Award. This award honors individuals with a lifetime of business excellence and community service in Rochester. Vic dedicated more than fifty years of service to O’Connell Electric and is well known for his volunteer and philanthropic efforts in our community. He retired in April 2022 where he spent his last 14 years as CEO.
A key to the success of the firm, O’Connell achieved over over $360 million in annual revenue and over 1,000 employees across seven offices when Vic retired. Outside of the office, Vic’s altruistic tendencies are seen through his work with St. John Fisher University, Wilmont Cancer Institute, St. Ann’s Community Foundation and many more. His philanthropy has inspired countless employees and community leaders to volunteer time and resources and has earned him widespread recognition in the Greater Rochester area.
Vic has had a profound impact on O’Connell, and our leadership team will continue to uphold his values into the future.
