“Due to the nature of our work, reaching our safety goals is quite significant and we feel it is important to celebrate these achievements with our work force,” Said Victor Salerno, CEO. Four years ago the company instituted a safety incentive program to promote awareness and reward employees for reaching safety milestones, including working 90, 180, 270 and 360 days without a lost time incident. For reaching their current goal this January, employees are receiving branded apparel as a gesture of thanks from the company. “We’re rewarding them with apparel, which is nice, but it goes deeper than that and I think everyone knows it,” said Salerno. “We care about the safety of our employees and at the end of the day, we all want to go home to our families. That’s what this is all about.”
Aside from organizing a successful safety incentive program, O’Connell Electric spends a considerable amount of time and effort developing one of the strongest safety cultures in the electrical industry. A Corporate Safety Committee meets regularly to review, update, and create new policies to protect workers and bring all employees together to achieve and maintain a safe, healthy workplace. For the past three years, the company has continued gaining attention in the industry after hosting highly acclaimed safety picnics to bring the workforce together for a day of safety awareness and to reinforce O’Connell’s commitment to building a strong safety culture.
