O’Connell Electric provides turnkey electrical construction solutions for wind power generation projects. Our expertise with wind farms encompasses the collective resources of our Substation, Power Line, Technical Services, Communications, and Electrical Construction Divisions. To date, we’ve applied and refined our expertise at 14 commercial wind farms in New York and West Virginia.
Our wind-related milestones had their start in the late ‘90s with the first three commercial wind farms in New York. By 2007, O’Connell was installing and testing the first commercial application of Clipper 2.5 MW Liberty Wind Turbines in the U.S. In 2008 we completed four major wind farm projects including a 50 turbine site where we constructed the overhead collection systems, two transmission substations, POI switchyard, and 9 miles of overhead transmission line. Our latest milestone for wind came in April of 2009 when we energized the first commercial WindTamer turbine installation in the Country.
O’Connell’s breadth of utilities work and experience with municipalities has made us uniquely efficient at point of interconnect (POI) resolution. Our project management applications across diverse electrical disciplines and broad general contracting experience sets the stage for a managed engineer, procure, and construct (EPC) approach to wind farms that will keep your project on schedule, on budget, and safe. We maintain strong established relationships with engineering and supply integrators. Our people are highly skilled in complex areas. Our tooling and equipment is second to none. Even our competitors call on us for our specialized work.
